I have discovered that even though I am a yoga teacher and was a professional dancer and competitive gymnast, I am kind of a klutz. Usually I manage to fall gracefully. Not this time. Dark morning + ice patch+ in a hurry so I have time to hit Starbucks = "Help! I've fallen and I can't get up!"
So I'm behind my house. Everyone is still in bed except my 16 year old daughter who will not be able to lift my fat ass. After yelling and banging on the door to no avail, I got my mobile phone (what did we do without these?) and started calling my family.
They wanted to call 911 but I wanted to get to the hospital and some serious painkillers asap.
I can't believe I came through about 5 car accidents and a 5 year abusive relationship without a broken bone but was felled by a small patch of ice on my back step.
Seriously, walking can be dangerous!! As I was lying on my back step hoping someone would get there before I froze to death I could not stop thinking about my great grandma Hull who froze to death behind her house in 1972.
She was taking the coal dust out to the pile early one dark January morning when she fell and couldn't get up. Since she lived alone before the days of mobile phones, it was a few days before anyone checked on her.
I, thankfully, was spared a similar fate - for now, at least.
In the hospital my roommate was a 55 year old woman who, like me, had slipped on ice and busted her ankle.
Like I said, walking can be dangerous! I see people worried about Ebola, but seriously, you are more likely to be killed walking down your back steps on an icy morning. Be careful out there!
